Acronymer support
Acronymer listens to your meeting and, the moment someone says an acronym, shows what it stands for in large type for everyone at the table. It works on your device, with no account.
Requirements
- iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 26 or later.
- Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later.
- Speech recognition in English: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa. Choose yours in Settings > Listening.
Getting started
- Choose the fields your meetings use. Acronymer asks the first time you open it, and you can change them any time in Library.
- Put your iPad, iPhone or Mac where people can see the screen.
- Tap Start listening (on a Mac, choose Meeting > Start Listening, or press ⇧⌘L) and allow the microphone.
- When the meeting is over, tap End (⌘. on a Mac). Its glossary is saved in Meetings, ready to share.
While listening, tap an acronym in the glossary to show it again, and use Focus to give the acronym the whole screen.
Questions
Acronymer asks to install a speech model
Acronymer uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition. The first time, your device may need Apple’s speech model for your language. Tap Install with iOS (or iPadOS or macOS) and the system downloads it once. After that, listening works offline. Acronymer itself doesn’t download the speech model; the system does.
I turned off microphone access
On iPhone and iPad, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and turn on Acronymer. On a Mac, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and turn on Acronymer. Audio is processed on your device and is never recorded or sent.
What is the d1-3B download, and do I need it?
When an acronym could mean two things in the same field (POC: proof of concept or point of contact?), a model on your device reads the conversation and picks one. If Apple Intelligence is on, Acronymer uses it and you don’t need anything else.
If Apple Intelligence isn’t available, Acronymer offers to download Liquid AI’s d1-3B decision model once: a 1.67 GB file from Hugging Face. It’s checked before use and runs offline. Download it later in Settings > Decision model, or remove it there with Remove d1-3B. Without a model, Acronymer still picks meanings from the words said nearby.
It showed the wrong meaning
When the same letters mean different things in two fields, the higher field wins. To change the order, open Library and drag the fields under “In use, by priority” (on iPhone and iPad, tap Reorder first).
During a meeting, touch and hold the acronym in the glossary (Control-click on a Mac) and choose It means something else, or tap the large acronym to see its other meanings and choose Use this. Your choice holds for the rest of the meeting. If a word isn’t an acronym at all, choose Not an acronym here.
To let the words said nearby decide between fields instead, turn on Settings > Meanings > Let the conversation choose between fields.
How do I add my team’s acronyms?
In Library, tap + and choose New acronym or New field. To add many at once, choose Import a list… and pick a CSV file: the acronym in the first column, its meaning in the second, and optionally a description in the third and keywords (words said near it, separated by commas) in the fourth.
acronym,meaning,description,keywords
URP,Unified Records Portal,Our new records system,"records,portal"
ZTB,Zero Trust Board,,"security,review"
A header row is optional; when there is one, columns can be in any order and named, for example, acronym, abbreviation or term, and meaning, expansion, stands for or definition. Tab- and semicolon-separated files work too, as do lists exported from Acronymer as JSON. To share one of your own fields with your team, open it in Library and use Export (a CSV file), or Export as JSON in its menu.
Acronyms you define out loud in a meeting (“the Unified Records Portal, or URP”) are used for the rest of that meeting, and you can save them to My Acronyms.
Where is my data, and how do I delete it?
Everything stays in Acronymer’s storage on your device: your library, saved meetings, any transcripts you chose to keep and the d1-3B model if you downloaded it. Acronymer doesn’t send any of it anywhere.
- Delete a meeting by swiping it in Meetings, or with Delete in the meeting’s menu.
- Delete your own acronyms and fields in Library.
- Remove the d1-3B model in Settings > Decision model.
- Delete the app to remove everything.
Details are in the privacy policy.
Can I try it without a meeting?
Yes. On the Live screen, tap Try a demo meeting (on a Mac, choose Meeting > Try the Demo Meeting). A scripted program sync plays through so you can see acronyms appear, collect in the glossary and save to Meetings.
How do I keep the screen on during a meeting?
It stays on while listening by default. Change it in Settings > Listening.
