Who makes Umless

Umless is made by Ramify Studios. This policy explains how the app handles information. For privacy questions, contact support@ramifystudios.com.

Audio and speech

When you start a rehearsal and allow microphone access, Umless processes the sound using Apple’s on-device speech recognition. Audio is held briefly in memory while it is analyzed. The optional Second listen feature checks short sounds again to find fillers that the main recognition pass may miss. Umless does not save audio files or a full transcript.

Live captions and recognized speech are used during the rehearsal. Short excerpts and repeated phrases can be retained in the recap, as described below. Pause or end the rehearsal to stop analyzing speech. An explicitly started rehearsal on iPhone can continue while the phone is locked.

What stays on your device

Umless keeps your settings, custom habits and phrases, talk names, and saved rehearsal results in its local app storage. A saved result can include its title and dates, duration and word count, habit counts and caught phrases, the times of catches, short excerpts around the first twenty catches of each habit, repeated phrases, pace and pause measurements, the clarity score, and notes you enter. The app also stores the identifiers of the real rehearsals included in your three-rehearsal Pro trial, so it can remember how many remain.

The app does not send these records to Ramify Studios. It has no cloud account or built-in synchronization between your iPhone, iPad and Mac.

The optional Apple Watch companion

If you install the companion on a paired Apple Watch, the iPhone sends rehearsal status, habit names and counts, the most recently caught phrase, pace, score, nudge information, and a short summary of the most recent rehearsal through Apple’s paired-device connection. That summary includes its title, score, comparison and completion time. Audio, live captions, your notes and surrounding speech excerpts are not sent to the Watch.

The Watch stores its latest received state and nudge preferences locally. Changes to the rehearsal’s mute setting can travel back to the iPhone. With your permission, the Watch can display local notifications containing a caught phrase and habit count, pace guidance, or a microphone status message. Notification appearance follows your watchOS settings. The iPhone does not post these notifications.

System downloads and other services

Umless does not send rehearsal data to a developer-operated service. If a required speech model is missing, the app offers to ask iOS, iPadOS or macOS to install it. The operating system handles that download after you choose to start it. Once the model is installed, speech recognition and rehearsal scoring work offline. App Store product information, purchases and purchase restoration use Apple’s system services and may require an internet connection.

Apple’s services, system diagnostics, and device backup features operate under their own settings and policies. Umless does not exclude its local app data from system backups. Your device, iCloud, computer or Time Machine backups may therefore retain copies of saved app data, depending on your settings.

Umless Pro purchases and trial

Basic is free. Umless Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase, with Pro access included in your first three saved real rehearsals. Demo rehearsals do not use this trial, and the trial does not charge you automatically or start a subscription.

Purchases are handled by Apple’s App Store through StoreKit. Umless requests product information, including the price shown for your storefront, reads verified purchase entitlements, listens for transaction updates, and requests restoration when you choose Restore purchase. It uses the resulting purchase status to enable Pro and respond to changes such as a refund. These operations may communicate with Apple.

Apple handles your Apple Account, billing and payment information under its own policies. Umless does not ask you for payment-card details, operate a purchase-verification server, or send rehearsal content as part of a purchase. Removing local app data does not remove the App Store’s purchase record. Purchase and refund requests are handled through Apple.

Sharing and contacting support

When you choose Share in a saved rehearsal, Umless opens the system share sheet with a text summary. That summary can include the rehearsal title and date, score, duration, word count, pace, habit counts and common phrases, repeated phrases, pause count and your notes. The destination you choose handles the shared copy under its own policies.

If you email support, Ramify Studios and the email services involved receive your email address and the information you choose to send. That correspondence is used to respond to your request. You can ask us about or request deletion of your support correspondence by emailing the same address. Avoid including sensitive speech excerpts unless they are needed to explain your issue.

Your controls and deletion

You can change microphone permission in your device’s privacy settings and notification permission in your Watch settings. You can edit your habits, phrases and notes in Umless. Delete a rehearsal in History to remove its saved result from that installation, or delete a talk and its rehearsals from the talk menu.

The phone and Watch keep a separate most recent recap for the companion experience. Deleting a rehearsal from History does not immediately clear that cached summary; it can remain until a later recap replaces it or the relevant app data is removed. Device backups and copies you have shared are separate from the app’s current storage.

Removing the app and its data through the operating system removes that installation’s local storage. Offloading an iPhone or iPad app retains its data, and moving the Mac app to the Trash may leave its local data behind. Contact support if you need help removing remaining Umless data on a Mac or Watch.

Collection, tracking and children

Umless contains no advertising or analytics SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites. There is no Umless registration form and no collection of age, location or your contact list. Apple’s system purchase flow handles payment information as described above. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information through the app.

This website

The Umless pages do not use analytics scripts, advertising, cookies or external fonts. As with a normal website request, the hosting service receives connection information needed to deliver a page, such as your IP address and requested URL. Visiting this website does not give it access to your rehearsals.

Changes to this policy
